UMass Ophthalmology Center

Madigan was hired by UMass Memorial Medical Center as the design builder on their new Ophthalmology Clinic located in Northborough, MA.  The approximately 6,000SF project included the renovation of existing gym space into medical office, along with the construction of new addition to house an elevator and stairwell to provide access from the upstairs level, which is the primary entrance to the building.

Madigan worked with UMass every step of the way, working through the design to create the most efficient floorplan possible, while also working with UMass on the different design development budgets.  The primary challenge of this project was the elevator addition, as we ran into unsuitable soils at the foundation location.  The problems were worked out with the design team and geotechnical engineer, which allowed the project to proceed.  We also worked with UMass to ensure minimal disruption to their ongoing operations upstairs, despite the fact that we were working below them and opening up the sides of the building to install the elevator.
