Client: Worcester Community Action Council
Architect: Lamoureux Pagano Associates
Madigan renovated the former Webster Senior Center into a bright learning space for the non-profit Worcester Community Action Council. The project included a completely new floor plan allowing for four classrooms, a food preparation kitchen, a community room, and administrative offices. We also replaced the windows, doors, and the roof providing a weather-tight envelope and increasing the efficiency of the building. Site work included soil remediation and the creation of a playground space and walkways around the side of the building.
In addition to these changes, Madigan installed a new heating/cooling system with advanced digital controls, added fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and replaced all the electrical and plumbing throughout the building. The most challenging part of the renovation was the addition of an elevator in the center of the building which required excavating through the basement slab while shoring up the main structural supports of the building. This required careful coordination and specialized equipment to complete the work safely inside the building. The completed project now houses over 70 students throughout the Southern Worcester County area and provides a vibrant space for early childhood education.
