Honoring History: The Restoration and Relocation of the Whispering Wall WWI Memorial
Madigan is honored to have been entrusted with the significant and historic task of restoring and relocating the Whispering Wall World War One Memorial in Lincoln Square, Worcester. This deeply meaningful monument, originally dedicated in 1935, commemorates the more than 350 brave men and women from Worcester who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War I, the so-called “War to End All Wars.”
With great respect for its historical significance, the restoration project will preserve the original integrity of the memorial while enhancing its visibility and accessibility for future generations. The relocation will place the monument in a new, prominent space beside the Worcester Memorial Auditorium, ensuring it remains a place of reflection, remembrance, and community pride.
Project Enhancements and Accessibility
To complement the memorial’s relocation, additional site enhancements will create a welcoming and inclusive space for visitors. The proposed upgrades include:
  • A new flagpole to honor the legacy of those who served.
  • Shade trees and landscaping to enhance the beauty of the space.
  • New seating areas and walkways, thoughtfully designed for accessibility, including wheelchair-friendly pathways to ensure everyone can pay their respects with ease.
A Connection to Community Revitalization
Madigan’s involvement in this project is especially meaningful, as it aligns with the company’s commitment to preserving Worcester’s history while fostering progress. The Whispering Wall Memorial is located on the same grounds as another Madigan-led initiative: the restoration and adaptive reuse of the historic Boys and Girls Club in Lincoln Square.
This ambitious redevelopment project will transform the Boys and Girls Club building into affordable housing for elderly Worcester residents, breathing new life into the structure while preserving its historic charm. Additionally, a four-story residential building will be constructed as an extension to provide further housing opportunities.
Through these projects, Madigan is proud to play a role in honoring the past while building a brighter future for the Worcester community.
